THE SAXON SHORE TRILOGY: BOOK 1
This is the story of Valdor, a young Batavian. His friend kills a Roman centurion who tries to rape him and, along with two other loyal friends, they escape from Roman justice in a fishing boat. A general, Carausius, rebelliously proclaims himself Emperor of both Britannia and Northern Gaul and all this in the third century when leadership conflicts proliferate.
Valdor befriends Carausius and, installed as Count of the Saxon Shore, he must complete the coastal defences against Saxon and Frankish raiders. Faced with barbarian tribes on its frontiers, the Roman army has to enlist former enemies paid for with debased coinage.
Will Britannia regain peaceful prosperity and what will happen to the usurper, especially now that Diocletian is persecuting Christians?
